Lagotto BI: the self-hosted BI that SMEs have been waiting for
Small and medium-sized enterprises across Europe and beyond have lived with the same paradox for years: the data is there, but reading it costs too much. Enterprise BI platforms — Qlik, Power BI Premium, Tableau — are built for large organizations with dedicated budgets, structured IT teams, and already-funded cloud infrastructure. For a small or mid-sized manufacturing company, the result is usually the same: a spreadsheet updated by hand every Monday morning.
Lagotto BI was built to change that.
The idea
A Business Intelligence platform that is completely self-hosted, deployed via Docker Compose. No data leaving the company. No monthly per-seat fees. No cloud vendor dependency. A single command to get started, on any machine — from a company server to a Raspberry Pi on a shelf.
The stack is modern and deliberately lightweight: Python 3.13 + FastAPI on the backend, Vue 3 on the frontend, MariaDB as the database. Everything designed to run without heavy hardware requirements and to integrate with the infrastructure already present in the company.
Why now
The European ERP landscape is fragmented. SAP, Zucchetti, Panthera, AS400, Sysman, Lantek — every industry has its history, every company has its own stack. Existing BI solutions either ignore this fragmentation or solve it at a steep price.
We want to solve it with a community.
The model is the one that made Grafana a standard in the IT world: connectors and dashboards created by users, available to everyone. One company writes the connector for their ERP, publishes it, and from that moment anyone using the same ERP can import it in one click. Dashboards become templates. Knowledge accumulates and is shared.
This model does not yet exist for manufacturing SMEs. We want to build it.
What to expect
The project is in active development. Over the coming months we will be publishing:
- The first public demo of the platform
- The first available ERP connectors
- Complete documentation for deploy and configuration
- Contribution guides for community connectors and dashboards
The free tier will be functional and real — not a crippled version designed to push you to upgrade, but a genuinely useful tool from day one.
Follow us
This is just the beginning. If you want to be among the first to try Lagotto BI, know when the demo drops, or contribute to the project, the easiest way is to follow us.
We are on LinkedIn and Facebook — you can find the links here on lake8.dev. We publish regular updates on the evolution of the project, and we want to build this community together with the people who share the same problems we are working to solve.
If you run an SME, work in a manufacturing company, or are a developer with ERP experience — your voice is already valuable. Write to us, follow us, send us a message. The project grows with input from people who tell us what they actually need.
